Since 2005, Norton Elementary has implemented a project that focuses on the study, exploration, and discovery of our blackland prairie ecosystem. The Ecoliteracy Project has been successfully creating, organizing, and building ecological literacy within our school community, Allen ISD, and the community of Allen. The Ecoliteracy Project has worked with parents, families, teachers, students, Eagle Scout candidates, Girl Scout Gold candidates, Brownie and Cub Scout troops, non-profit and government agencies, residential, retail and commercial development companies. Through this work we all share the common goals of educating children in the value of our natural areas, making them aware of our blackland prairie ecosystem and giving them opportunities to become stewards of our natural communities.

C&NN has designated April "Children & Nature Awareness Month." As part of this effort, we invited network members (like you) to list their April programs and share their strategies for building public awareness. Find out what's happening in your community on the C&NN Movement Map.
As part of our ongoing efforts to build the movement, the Children & Nature Network has published two new resources for leaders, organizers, and participants at the local, national, and international levels:
An annotated bibliography of 20 premier studies focusing on the children and nature connection.

The National Wildlife Federation has created a website to inspire parents and children alike. The premise is simple: every child should spend at least an hour a day playing outside.
